More than 500 runners, walkers and their fur friends will make their way around the Adelaide 500 race track for the Hot Lap Fun Run and Lap Dogs Walk on Sunday, 25 February.
2018 will be the third year of the Athletics SA Hot Lap Fun Run at the Adelaide 500 and this year they'll be sharing the track with 2018 Official Charity, the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) who are hosting a special one-off Lap Dogs Walk to support their fundraising goal of $50,000 .
If you've ever wanted to share the fun of the Adelaide 500 with your best 4-legged friend, and walk (or run) the whole 3.2km circuit, this is your chance!
Funds raised from the RSB's Lap Dogs event will contribute to helping the Royal Society for the Blind continue their work as the largest Guide and Assistance dog school in South Australia, supplying around 80% of Guide Dogs in any given year.
Athletics SA ambassador Kane Cornes will be lacing up his boots for the 3km Hot Lap Fun Run while RSB ambassador Rachael Leahcar will take part in the Lap Dogs Walk with her Guide Dog, golden retriever Ella.
“I am honoured to be an ambassador for such a worthy cause and can’t wait to participate in the Lap Dogs Walk in ten days’ time,” Leahcar said.
Singer and songwriter, Leahcar was born with Retinitis Pigmentosa and may one day, be totally blind.
Adelaide 500 General Manager, Nathan Cayzer said that the combination of the two events creates the perfect day out for the whole family.
“We are excited to be partnering with both Athletics SA and the RSB to bring this initiative to life and guarantee that it will be a fun morning for the whole family. This is a unique opportunity to experience the famous Adelaide Street Circuit up close and personal”
Tickets for both events are just $20 for adults or $10 for children. Four legged family members can walk for FREE! Each registration for the RSB's Lap Dogs will also include a bandanna for you or your dog.
