The Adelaide 500 roars to life on Thursday 1 March and you’ll be there with plenty of on-track action and excitement for the first of your four days of racing. Here's our easy guide to having a great Thursday at the track...
You’ve timed it perfectly, grabbed a free Adelaide Metro bus, train or tram into the city, and are rolling through the gates to kickstart the biggest weekend of your year. The weather is perfect and you can hear the ECB SuperUtes roaring to life for the first practice session of the day.
It’s the perfect time to stroll through the Adelaide 500 precinct before the Nulon Improved Production Cars take to the track from 8:50am. If you’ve brought the kids along, head to the City of Adelaide TrAction Zone and book them in for a ride on the Honda Motorcycle Junior GP (grid reference N5 in your event guide).
Why not make your way to the New Holland Split Rhythm powered by Monster Energy zone for open practice? See the Supercross superstars warm up for their head-to-head battles for the races over the coming three days.
Opening practice for the Audi R8 LMS Cup gets underway shortly. If your life depends on hearing the roar of V10 engines – you won’t want to miss this. Why not also head towards Turn 8 to see the displays at the Australian Defence Force Oval?
It’s the next best thing to Supercars. The Dunlop Super2 series hits the track for opening practice.
The City of Adelaide TrAction Zone is the place to be over all four days this weekend. It’s just east of Turns 12 and 13 and has some awesome stuff to see – like Showtime FMX’s awesome daredevil stunts.
The Touring Car Masters hit the track for opening practice, followed by the Matt Mingay Stunt Bike team at 11:20am, and then practice for the Porsche Carrera Cup series.
Aussie Bandit Wheelstanding Utes make their first on-track appearance for the weekend before Qualifying for the Nulon Improved Production Cars. Why not also head to the Feature Race Paddock next to Brabham Straight and check out the cars featuring in today’s racing?
Can you feel the earth move? It’s probably the Stadium Super Trucks rolling on the track for practice and qualifying. Grab a feed and feast your eyes on the sight of these mammoth trucks tearing up the tarmac.
The Touring Car Masters wrap up qualifying and then the Hot Wheels Drift Team and DriftSquid roll onto the track for their first demo of the weekend. Why not watch from near Turn 10 and check out Merchandise Alley for the latest 2018 gear?
If you’re near Gate 1, duck back to see New Holland Split Rhythm riders warm up once again, or check out Team Army’s Project Digger and Armygeddon street machines on track at 2:15pm.
Practice 2 for the Audi R8 LMS Cup gets underway for a full 30-minute session. It’s also a good time to walk up to the top of Brock Straight near Turn 7 and check out the action at the Monster Energy Display Village.
Find your favourite spot for the next hour, because you’ll be treated to a double whammy of SuperUtes qualifying and Super2 practice.
There’s more racing to come, but you can also check out some of the great history of Holden’s 70 years just outside Gates 1 and 1B near Highway 500, or take a seat and watch back-to-back races with the Nulon Improved Production Cars taking to the track at 4:30pm, followed by the Touring Car Masters.
It’s final practice for Split Rhythm! Head on out and see the bikes go one last time before tomorrow’s qualifying. Then head back to the track to see the first race of the Touring Car Masters, followed by final practice session for the Stadium Super Trucks and Audi R8 LMS Cup.
The 20th edition of the Adelaide 500 kicks off on Thursday 1 March with feature race category action, including Dunlop Super2, before the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship hits the track for qualifying on Friday and races on Saturday and Sunday.
