CONTROVERSY has followed the end of the Top 10 Shootout as a stewards investigation is called to review Shane Van Gisbergen's provisional pole lap...

DESPITE posting the fastest lap of the Top 10 Shootout for Saturday's first race of the Adelaide 500, Shane Van Gisbergen will sweat on a stewards investigation.
Van Gisbergen's No. 97 Red Bull HRT Commodore was cited for exceeding track limits at the Turn 7 exit, prompting a post-shootout review.
If stewards determine to penalise Van Gisbergen for an infringement, it will likely elevate Scott McLaughlin to pole position.
While Van Gisbergen was head-and-shoulders above the rest of the field in the shootout - four-tenths quicker than last year's qualifying supremo McLaughlin - the speed for the weekend clearly sits in the hands of several ultra-consistent drivers.
Clearly, Van Gisbergen and McLaughlin have been the fastest across all qualifying and practices sessions, as well as the shootout.
But proven Adelaide 500 performer James Courtney will breathe down their necks, having been super quick across the weekend to qualify in provisional third.
David Reynolds has been consistent in the Penrite Holden and Jamie Whincup led the shootout with a strong lap in the lead Red Bull Holden early in the session.
That was remarkable considering the overnight repair job on his new ZB Commodore after it hit the wall at Turn 8 on Friday.
Mark Winterbottom (Bottle-O Ford) has also performed solidly to post the sixth fastest lap of the session.
Rick Kelly (Castrol Nissan), Will Davison (Milwaukee Ford), Nick Percat (Blackwoods Holden) and Lee Holdsworth (Preston Hire Holden) rounded out the top 10.
