The 21st edition of the Adelaide 500 will again open Virgin Australia Supercars Championship from 28 February - 3 March 2019.
As Australia’s largest domestic motorsport event, the race retains its traditional place as the season-opener for the nation’s premier motorsport series.
The 2019 Adelaide 500 will also mark the debut of the new Ford Mustang, which will serve as the Blue Oval’s premier model in Australian touring car racing since the introduction of the Falcon.
The event will also mark the full-time return of Ford manufacturer support to the championship since 2014, with Dick Johnson Racing-Team Penske and Tickford Racing to run ‘the Pony’ in the 2019 championship against the ever-present Holden Commodores and Nissan Altimas continuing in the series.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Hon David Ridgeway MLC, said the state government was delighted to announce the event’s dates for 2019.
“Rivalry on the racetrack is all part of the beauty of motorsport and we expect the active return of Ford will bring out some passionate drivers and spectators to our city circuit,” Minister Ridgway said.
“The biggest motorsport and entertainment events belong right here in SA - retaining the coveted season-opener is great for the State.
“We are delighted to announce race dates for 2019 and look forward to welcoming fans from all over to witness racing history.”
Supercars CEO Sean Seamer said the Adelaide 500 remained one of Australia’s best major events and remains one of the category’s favourite calendar rounds.
“As one of the country’s largest and most successful major events, the Adelaide 500 is one of the standouts of our racing season each year,” Seamer said.
“The incredible range of entertainment on and off track as part of a month of festivities in Adelaide sets it apart as a great celebration for the City.
“The return of the iconic Mustang will only add to this incredible event.”
2018 event attendance was the largest since 2015, with an almost 10% increase on 2017.
More than 273,000 event-goers poured through the gates to celebrate 20 years of the event in Adelaide.
Four-day grandstand tickets are on sale for 500 CLUB members until 11.59pm on Sunday 8 July, with prospective new members able to access tickets for the event for one week from 23-30 July via Adelaide500.com.au/500Club.

The 2019 Adelaide 500 takes place from 28 February – 3 March 2019.
