Former team test driver Kurt Kostecki and 2018 series debutant Brenton Grove will steer the two Triple Eight VF Commodores throughout next year's championship, which gets underway as the top feature race category supporting the top flight Supercars series at the Superloop Adelaide 500 on February 28.
With Triple Eight running two Red Bull cars in the main game in 2019, the move back to Super2's will help the team's long-term play, according to team manager Mark Dutton.
“We as a group really enjoyed running a car in the Development Series a few years ago,” Dutton said.
“Getting good results in Super2 back then meant just as much to the guys and girls in the team as with the TeamVodafone or Red Bull Racing Australia cars.
“Roland (Dane, Team Owner) has talked a lot about succession plans for Triple Eight over the last few years and finding the right drivers to continue the team’s success is something that’s really important, especially since Jamie (Whincup) is now thinking about his own future and when he might hang up the helmet to take on a greater role in running the team.
“It’s not only about the drivers as well. We have an opportunity to nurture the young engineers and mechanics and help them make the transition to taking on more responsibility in the main game without completely throwing them in at the deep end.
"On top of all of that, running two cars in Super2 allows us to maintin staff levels, which otherwise would have had to be reduced if only running in the main game with two cars, not three."
Triple Eight will run two Red Bull Racing Australia Commodores for Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen and two Super2 entries for Kostecki and Grove at the Superloop Adelaide 500 from 28 February to 3 March 2019.
