23Red Racing has big goals and aspirations for 2019, two-time Bathurst winner Will Davison told SuperloopADL500.com.au, with one week to go until his Mustang debut.
Davison makes the move this year to drive under the Tickford Racing umbrella, after joining the newly formed 23Red in 2018.
Like the rest of the Ford drivers in the series, Davison is highly anticipating the debut of the Mustang at the Superloop Adelaide 500.
"Arriving in Adelaide in the new Mustang is pretty exciting for the category, and it's really exciting to be driving one", he told SuperloopADL500.com.au.
"There's plenty of reasons to be optimistic... Obviously we're really keen to get kick started."
Davison was fifth fastest in the Phillip Island testing, with 4 out of the top 6 finishers Mustangs, making for an even more exciting debut of the new Ford Supercar in Adelaide.
"The Mustang has been hugely anticipated and rightly so - it's an icon globally so it's really cool that Ford are actively involved in the sport, really pumped and motivated to win." Davison said.
"It's exciting to be a part of that with 6 Mustangs on the grid, and they're all quality teams and combinations that can really challenge straight out the box".
The pressure is on for not just Davison and 23Red and the other Mustang drivers, but the entire grid.
"The field's getting tighter and tighter every year, so I can't wait for another year of battles, and hopefully will get back up on that podium in Adelaide. I feel like I've got my best shot in a while".
It's not just the fans that are excited for four days of action and entertainment at the Superloop Adelaide 500, but the drivers too as Davison can atest.
"It's one of the few events where the whole town gets massively behind it, not just at the race track but all of the other types of events."
"You really feel that it's not just a motor race; it's part of Adelaide's furniture, it's an event everyone wants to be at. It feels good that it's such a great show, and it's a massive way to start the year."
It may be a podium finish for Davison or one of the other Ford drivers, shaking up Holden's traditional dominance at the opening round in Adelaide. Only the results will tell the tale.
Will Davison is one of the 6 drivers debuting the Ford Mustang Supercar at the Superloop Adelaide 500, which opens the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship from February 28-March 3. Tickets are available here.
