Organisers of the 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500 are encouraging fans to farewell Holden this weekend, following yesterday’s announcement regarding the future of the iconic Australian automotive brand.
Parent company General Motors yesterday announced the Holden brand would be retired from sales, design and engineering across Australia and New Zealand by 2021.
With news following General Motors’ announcement still developing, Executive Director of Events South Australia, Hitaf Rasheed, has encouraged fans to get their tickets for this weekend’s 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500 and celebrate the rivalry of Holden versus Ford, likely never to be seen on the Adelaide track again.
“Yesterday’s news was devastating and our thoughts are with the employees who will lose their jobs in the coming months and years,” Rasheed said.
“Holden was born in this city, and has had a rich history with many passionate fans in this state. The rivalry between Holden and Ford on our iconic street circuit is legendary and this weekend may be the last chance to witness it in Adelaide. We encourage all fans to be there for this historic event.
“With fantastic weather forecast all week, the scene is set for a memorable season opener and a fitting farewell.”
The 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500 event will take place from February 20 - 23. Tickets can be purchased from $45 here
