Holden defector Chaz Mostert has stamped his authority on the Adelaide Street Circuit on the eve of qualifying with a new practice/qualifying record in final practice.
Posting the record lap of 1:19.2412 just seconds out from the end of the session, Mostert was quick to point out his achievement was achieved in a practice session, with the money day tomorrow.
“The saddest thing is that it's practice, not qualifying; we'd be happier if it was qualifying,” Mostert said post-session.
“The car felt good and it still feels so far behind the eight-ball, still trying to learn the car, it's a fair bit different.
“It felt pretty hooked up and there wasn't much more left in it; it's pretty loose with the new changes, but a lot of fun to drive.”
Mostert eclipsed defending Superloop Adelaide 500 winner Scott McLaughlin who had led almost the entirety of the session, with Will Davison again third in a continued demonstration of his early form.
Holden was well-represented in the top 10 with Mark Winterbottom (fourth), and both Penrite Racing and Red Bull Holden Racing Commodores, as well as Nick Percat (tenth).
Cam Waters was the only Ford beyond the front-running McLaughlin and Will Davison, finishing eighth overall.
The opening 250km leg of the Superloop Adelaide 500 gets underway on Saturday afternoon after qualifying and the Top 10 Shootout.
