Shane Van Gisbergen has surged into the second stage of Saturday's qualifying after topping the times in Practice 2.
He and teammate Jamie Whincup traded the lead throughout the session, with the pair able to comfortably retire from the session with minutes remaining on the clock while the rest of the field fought for a place in the top 10.
They were eventually split by Milwaukee Racing's Will Davison who continued his week-long show of strength with a second place to add to yesterday's third in Practice 1, and the fastest time at Tuesday's all-in test day.
It was an impressive performance for Davison who brought out the first red flag of the session after spearing into the gravel trap at Turn 11.
Six Holdens filled the top 10 at the close of the session, with both Shell V-Power Mustangs to be joined by the Tickford pairing of Davison and Cam Waters in Qualifying 2.
Supercars practice continues on Friday night at 6:00pm, ahead of the first night of after-race concerts headlined by Grinspoon and joined by The Superjesus and Sneaky Sound System.
