Jamie Whincup has taken the first pole position of 2020 with an unbeaten Shootout lap at the Superloop Adelaide 500.
The most successful driver in the history of Supercars posted a 1:19.4793 after qualifying ninth, but his blistering second sector proved unmatchable.
David Reynolds will start second on the grid and looked a chance to nab the first box on the grid, but fell just under five-thousandths of a second short.
His Penrite Commodore was smoking from the rear for the majority of the lap, with drivers following him - including contenders Shane Van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin, seemingly slowed by possible oil traces on the track.
That pairing will need to make their way through the pack after qualifying sixth and seventh overall.
Will Davison was the top Ford for the session and will start third - continuing his strong week-long form.
Yesterday's practice lap record-breaker Chaz Mostert was eight tenths adrift of Whincup in fourth, while Cam Waters claimed fifth - just under one-hundredth behind.
Anton De Pasquale (Penrite), Mark Winterbottom (Irwin Racing) and Nick Percat (Brad Jones Racing) rounded out the top 10.
Race 1 commences at 4:20pm, with Saturday's after-race concerts headlined by Pete Murray and Sheppard getting underway following the podium presentation.
