Scott McLaughlin has claimed his second consecutive Superloop Adelaide 500 title with victory in Race 2 on Sunday afternoon.
But the victory was not without its fair share of luck, with McLaughlin inheriting the race lead after Van Gisbergen's Red Bull Holden Racing Team short-fuelled the #97 Commodore.
That forced Van Gisbergen into the pits for fuel and fresh tyres, and re-gifted McLaughlin the lead he earned with a superior start.
Van Gisbergen emerged in fourth and chasing Cam Waters' Monster Energy Mustang for third, but a suspension issue when attempting to wrest a podium position put paid to his hopes.
McLaughlin complimented his unfortunate rival after the race, though was happy to take the victory and championship lead.
"Full credit to Shane and his team," McLaughlin said.
"They really should've won that race, they had the faster car, so I'll take it, we've got to take the luck when we can."
